Meet the Artist

It is my hope that when you view a painting of mine there is more there than meets the eye.  A ride on the turnpike, a walk on the boardwalk, the sight of colors relating can all set a painting in motion. Like a fine recipe, flavors that are subtle, unexpected or particularly satisfying are what makes a dish special. So too, a work of art should strive to be more than just a decoration.

Born and raised in Union City, N.J., there was a dearth of artistic inspiration. Although I always liked to draw, after kindergarten my first art class was art history in my sophomore year at Holy Cross College (where I obtained a BA in Fine Art). A junior year abroad program in Rome was an eye opener. After trying work in business I decided to take the plunge and seriously pursue art. I took classes at Jersey City State College and after that I spent four years learning to draw and paint at the Art Students League in NYC. MY training was in representational painting, however, over the years I have floated between realism and abstraction. Hopefully I achieve a sensibility to both, perhaps in the same painting.
